Jamies Italian

I am the biggest biggest fan of Jamie Oliver.. Like from way back in the day when he was known as the Naked Chef. In fact I’m pretty sure that’s where my passion for coking slowly grew from… No not from the thought of Jamie Oliver being naked, but watching this young guy make cooking seem soo easy. Therefore it’s only natural that whenever we come across a new restaurant of his that we prepare our stomachs to check it out.

Jamies Italian is in the beautiful city of Sydney (& was quite conveniently opposite my mum’s work!) We heard how busy it gets and got in nice and early (about 11.30am) to get a seat before the lunch crowd rushed in. The decor was bright and rustic, just how I’d imagine my own kitchen to look one day. The waiter, complete with what I thought was an English accent approached us almost immediately. Then after some friendly chit chat about the restaurant and todays specials I soon found out that he was Irish.

The tea towel type styled napkins as well as the cutlery and plates are all made for the restaurant Jamies name printed clearly on everything.

Then to the food. We started off the complimentary bread sampler and the Sardine special, because we were so intrigued on how sardines could be cooked if not straight out of a can. The variety of breads all baked in house were drizzled with a pesto and served with dipping oil and balsamic. The sardines. OMG! I have never tasted such delicate and not too fishy sardines before.. I think this is the only way sardines should now be served, wrapped in prosciutto with a squeeze of the warm grilled lemon and fresh dill.

Complimentary Italian Bread Selection, served with extra-virgin olive oil & aged balsamic.

Then onto the mains Between the three of us we ordered two pastas and the Veal Special. The Veal, (cooked with a brick!!) was tender and melt in your mouth and accompanied by tender eggplants, tomatoes and Pesto. Mum got the Buffalo Ricotta Ravioli. Large delicate parcels stuffed with creamed ricotta, lemon, mint & Parmesan, As the website states… Pure heaven.  After tasting everyones, my dish of course was my favourite, the Prawn Linguine. Juicy pan-fried garlicky local prawns served with tomatoes, chilli, rocket & fennel. Yes.. plentyful plentyful prawns and just the right about of spice.

Special of the Day: Brick baked Veal with roasted cherry tomatoes and eggplant.

Overall, we were all very happy with each of our meals and I’d visit again. I’ve got my eye on the Bucatini Carbonara.. You can check it all out for yourself online:  http://www.jamieoliver.com/au/italian/food-menu
